Nigerian Citizen Writes Finance Minister Over ‘Extortion’ By VIO and FRSC Officials

Officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abuja have been petitioned by a Nigerian citizen, Tony Ejumejowo over claims that the officials are extorting unsuspecting citizens.

According to the petition which was addressed to the Minister of Finance, the VIO and FRSC officials were stopping and impounding vehicles in the city of Abuja based on claims that the vehicles needed to be tested for road worthiness and issuance of road worthiness certificates. A private Fidelity Bank account number is then made available to ‘defaulters’ to make payments into.

This development, the petitioner suspects is an attempt to defraud Nigerians as the monies being payed into the said account may be ending up in the private coffers of some individuals and not the government.

Below is the full petition and invoice of payment by the petitioner made available to SIGNAL.
