How to Properly Test Studio Speakers Before Buying?

How to properly test studio speakers before buying?

Virtually all monitors have a number of common flaws in sound that deserve your special attention. Even the most expensive models may feature some of these drawbacks. However, the acoustic system with too many of these drawbacks is definitely not worth buying!

Read these few tips on what to look for when choosing speakers for your studio – after all, this is quite an expensive purchase!

  • Find all the most modern, high-quality, branded and inexpensive musical equipment in one place, in a huge assortment – just visit https://jiji.ng/audio-and-music-equipment!
  • Look for products quickly with help of a convenient search system with filters, choose hot ads with the lowest price of the goods, contact real sellers directly on the site while feeling completely safe from scammers thanks to the strict anti-scam policy of the largest online-marketplace in Nigeria!

Bass:

  • Dumb, slow, droning bass sound, as well as saturated shapeless bass without an expressive tone is a sign that the speakers are bad;
  • The upper bass can be perfectly revealed in a male speech. The sound should not contain any unnecessarily accented or unnatural “boxed” noise;
  • The sound of individual bass notes should not exceed the sound of the rest;
  • Deep bass sounds should be fast and clean and have a sufficient level of density;
  • Listen to how the drums and bass sound together. A dynamic bass drum pattern should be heard behind the sounds of the bass guitar. The sound of the drum should be rhythmic, and not lagging behind the bass guitar.
  • If the speakers are unable to reproduce the rhythm powerfully enough, the sound becomes sluggish and even slow to the ear.

Medium frequencies:

  • Do not buy monitors with “colored” mid-range sound. You can notice this through the specific sound of vocal parts resembling the sound of human speech through the folded hands, nasal sound or the accentuation of some vowel sounds;
  • The ringing, metallic-colored piano sound is also quite common in this range;
  • The quality monitor reproduces the vocals parts cleanly and openly. When you listen to this, it sounds like the vocals are separated from other instruments.

High frequencies:

  • Low quality of frequencies sounding manifests itself through «sandy» dirty sound of violins, plates and excessively allocated sibilants – the whistling sounds of vocal parts (“s”, “sh”, etc.);
  • Cymbals on bad monitors can distort the whole sound scene with slapping, reminding the blasts of white noise;
  • Good reproduction implies a harmonious combination of high frequencies with music where they do not attract attention;
  • The ability of monitors to sound at high volume without overload is important. Some models sound perfect at low volume levels, while on high volumes the sound may be distorted;
  • Listen to music (especially classical) – it should not break down and acquire a hoarse hue in loud, complex parts.

Music should sound open and transparent, while vagueness, blurriness or opacity is unacceptable. Summing up, we can say that the less noticeable the speakers are the better!
