Sultan Laments Nigeria’s Rising Security Challenges

The Sultan of Sokoto, who is also the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad (lll), has expressed worry over the deteriorating security, rising poverty and socio-economic problems confronting the country.

More worrisome, he said, was the fact that these problems were left to linger for too long without being tackled.

The Sultan, who is the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, stated this at the Jama’atul Nasril Islam’s Central Council Meeting and Annual Pre-Ramadan Conference in Kaduna on Monday.

He also stressed the need for Nigeria to take drastic actions in solving its problems as the nation had knowledgeable people that could proffer solutions.

The Sultan said, “The challenges bedevilling the country require commitment and proactive steps to address them. These challenges have unfortunately been on the increase because necessary steps and commitment to implement solutions identified are not taken.”

Speaking on the forthcoming Ramadan, the Sultan urged Muslim clerics to preach according to the dictates of Islam as enshrined in the Holy Koran.

According to him, the clerics have a duty to implement all the dictates of Islam to all Muslim faithful as it is imperative that they do not fail in such endeavours.

The meeting, he said, would discuss issues affecting the Muslim community as well as national issues.
