Fresh facts have emerged on the gory photos of a decapitated woman widely reported across the Nigerian social media being that of a lady identified as Bridget Agbahime, who was beheaded by angry Muslim youths in Kano for allegedly blaspheming the name of Prophet Mohammed.
Further checks by SIGNAL have revealed that the image being circulated is as old as 2014 and first appeared online on November 17, 2014 under the caption, “Bauchi Female Suicide Bomber Caught By Angry Mob And Beheaded”.
The picture, purportedly of the decapitated Kano woman, was the same image that accompanied the report at that time in 2014.
While the Nigerian Police has confirmed the Kano beheading, the image in circulation represents a completely different incident.
We apologise to our readers, families and friends of the deceased for the mix up which was published in an earlier report by this newspaper.
SIGNAL encourages other social media users, media houses and blogs etc to kindly also note the correction.
