Macron Plans Nigeria Visit, to Address Senators, Reps

French President, Emmanuel Macron, has a scheduled visit to Nigeria in July, the Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Mr. Denys Gauer, confirmed in Abuja on Tuesday.

Gauer, who met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara at the National Assembly, said Macron would seek to address senators and members of the House during the visit.

The envoy added that Macron had interest in Nigeria and would like to talk on several issues relating to the development of the country.

Gauer recalled that Macron once worked at the French Embassy in Abuja, spending six months before his redeployment.

He informed Dogara that youth development and talks on cultural exchanges between the two countries would be on the agenda during the visit.

The envoy explained that the visit would be expanding current relations beyond security.

Dogara, who was elated, described Macron as “a man of our generation.”

He said that it would be an interesting experience for members of the National Assembly to listen to him, particularly on how he was able to convince French voters to elect him, not minding his young age.

The Speaker commended France for its support to Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

He also assured the envoy that the National Assembly would be prepared to give legislative backing to all bilateral agreements that would be signed between Nigeria and France during Macron’s July visit.
