Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to the family of late Mrs HID Awolowo in Ikenne, Ogun.

Aisha described the deceased, who passed on at 99 years, as a great pillar that would be remembered for her contribution to women, national development, peace and unity of Nigeria.

She said her death was a sad one but HID Awolowo would remain a role model to the women of this great county.

Mrs. Buhari recalled that the deceased accorded her a befitting reception during the campaign for 2015 general elections that brought President Muhammadu Buhari into power on May 29.

The elder daughter of the Awolowo family, Mrs Omotola Awolowo, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his zeal to fight corruption, insecurity and other vices in the country.

She reiterated that Awolowo’s family would continue to support his administration on all his plans to develop this country.

She urged women in the country to support and be honest to their spouses as it was the secret that made her mother excel in life.

She thanked the president’s wife for the visit, adding that her visit was a sign of great honour to her mother and the family.

She described the deceased as humble, honest and loyal wife to the core.

She said HID Awolowo would be buried on Nov. 25, a day she would be 100 years.

Omotola said her mother was survived by two daughters, including herself and more than 30 grand children.

The Wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, is one the grand children. She said the deceased lost three of her children out of the five she had while alive.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the deceased was the wife of the famous politician, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

However, the president’s wife was received by the Deputy Governor of Ogun, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga and the Vice President’s wife, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo.

Others on the entourage were the wife of the former Governor of Bayelsa, Mrs Alanyingi Sylva; former Deputy Governor of Plateau, Mrs Pouline Tallen and the wife of Nasarawa State Governor, Mrs Mero Al-Makura.
