Sources informed about the development told SIGNAL Tuesday night the President made a last minute decision to shelve the trip in the wake of the social media outrage that followed the killings in Benue state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Within the past one week, herdsmen attacked farmers in two communities in Benue state killing over 70 of them including a pregnant woman. The victims will be given a mass burial on Thursday, January 11th.
President Buhari was to be in Abia state Tuesday for an APC Mega Rally where himself, the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other party chieftains were scheduled to receive defectors to the ruling party – a move many Nigerians had criticised as irresponsible and insensitive.
