Buhari Didn’t Meet Empty Treasury – Bello Haliru

President Muhammadu Buhari

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustee (BoT) chairman, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, has challenged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration on alleged inheritance of empty treasury from the Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP government.

Haliru, who stated this yesterday at the party’s National Conference noted that the PDP handed over a viable government to the All Progressives Congress government and warned the PDP faithful to resist the temptation of joining the ruling party to spoil PDP.

He called on members to be proud of the party and refrain from tendering apology to Nigerians as the party did well during its 16 years in office.

According to Haliru, the PDP had been vindicated as the APC has tried in vain to build on the foundation of the former ruling party, wondering why the APC government claimed to have met an empty treasury.

The PDP BoT chairman also wondered where the ruling party raised the bailout funds given to governors for workers’ salary and the money given to the peacekeeping force fighting against insurgents in the country if the claimed to meet an empty treasury so true.He said: “We should not fall for the gimmick trying to spoil the name of PDP that they have destroyed the country and the treasury has been vandalised, this are propaganda items. The actual truth is we handed over to Buhari a viable government. If not for so, if the treasury is empty where did he find the money to support the governors who could not pay salary; if the treasury were empty where did he find the money to release to the international peacekeeping force.”

The PDP BoT chairman stated that the Buhari did not have to offer any excuse to Nigerians for non-performance as the government had realised so much funds from crude oil sales while monies were being shared in the last six months from the Federation Accounts.
“Even if the treasury were empty, that should not be an excuse for Buhari and government that they cannot do anything because in the last six months petrol and crude oil were being sold, money is being accumulated; the federation account has been busy sharing the money. What have they done with the money in the last 6months?” he asked.

Also speaking the chairman PDP Governors’ Forum, Olusegun Mimiko called on the Buhari administration to release Kogi state bailout funds as was done to the other states.

He said Nigerians expected credible elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states while the adjudication process of the judiciary must be seen to be just pointing out that the nation has cause for anxiety for some of the processes of adjudication by the tribunals.
