Buhari Proceeds On 5-Day Vacation, Osinbajo to Act as President

President Muhammadu Buhari is proceeding on a 5-day vacation. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu disclosed this is in a statement on Friday.

Captured in a set of tweets issued from the official handle of Mallam Shehu, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will stand as Acting President during the course of President Buhari’s absence.

“President Buhari has begun a short vacation from today, February 5 to February 10, 2016. While President Buhari is on vacation, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the President. In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, Pres. Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives”, the statement said.

The reason for the vacation, coming barely eight months after President Buhari assumed office as President was not disclosed. But when asked by our reporter if the vacation was in relation to the President’s health, Mallam Garba Shehu said in a phone interview on Friday that the President is periodically entitled to a vacation.

“The President is entitled to a vacation. What he choses to use his vacation for is his private business”, he told SIGNAL.

A report by The Trent in January 2016 had raised concerns over the President’s health. According to the report, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides have raised concerns over his health which is said to be in unstable condition as a result of his incessant foreign trips.
