As the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, continues at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), despite the Chairman of the CCT adjourning the court’s proceedings to 10am on today, as at 11am, both the Prosecuting Counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, and the Chairman of the CCT were not in court.
It will be recalled that on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016, one of Saraki’s Counsels, Ajibola Oluyede, requested that the CCT boss withdraw from presiding over the CCT because of pending bribery charges against him by the EFCC.
Disagreeing with the motion, Rotimi Jacobs, seemed to assume a new role as the Counsel to the CCT Chairman – giving the court reasons why the CCT Chairman should not recuse himself, in spite of the fact that it had been established by EFCC investigative reports that as a suspect in a N10 million bribery investigation, Danladi Umar was thus unfit to preside over a case being investigated by the EFCC.
It is not clear why both Umar and Jacobs are arriving late to court.
Observers in court however express fears on a possible collusion between Umar and Jacobs on the delivery of the judgement filed by Saraki’s Counsel.
