Don’t Soil Your Democratic Records, Oyo Group Urges Buhari

A Yoruba socio-political group, Egbe Isokan Oyo has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of politicians that would lure him into desperation that could denigrate his democratic pedigrees before the Nigerian populace.

The group’s position is contained in a congratulatory message dispatched to journalists through its Publicity Secretary, Sunday Oluwole in Abuja on Sunday.

While felicitating with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on his reelection victory at the February 23 presidential polls, the group cautioned the President to steer clear of plans to militarize the politics by deploying soldiers in states during the March 9 governorship polls.

“We are aware that anti-democratic forces are planning to undermine the wishes of the people by arm-twisting electorate in states where there are fears of the ruling party losing, especially in Oyo. Mr. President will do well not to fall into the antics of desperate politicians who will use the military to force their way.

“The result of the presidential election is Oyo State expresses the wishes of the people, the same may not play out on Saturday but the people should be allowed to make their choices freely in the governorship and state house of assembly elections without intimidating the electorate,” Oluwole said.

The spokesperson of the group said information at its disposal indicates that pressures were being mounted on President Buhari to deploy the military massively especially is Oyo State to coerce the people, not just to vote against their wishes but also allow the reign of impunity during and after the election.
