Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina J. Mohammed has applauded the efforts of the African Youth Initiative on Population, Health and Development (AfrYPoD) in building synergy among youths for sustainable development. She also commended the organization’s desire to support the efforts of the ministry in building sustainable environment in Nigeria. The minister made the commendations while receiving AfrYPoD’s leadership led by its Founder/President, Dr Laz Ude Eze.
Accompanied by the Hon. Minister of State in the Ministry, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim Jibril, she disclosed the plans of the ministry to promote green environment, proper waste management and end open defaecation in Nigeria. She assured her guests that the ministry under her leadership would leave no one behind in its activities. Earlier, AfrYPoD President, Dr Eze and informed the minister that his organization is building partnership and collaborations among youth-led and youth-focused organization to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa.
Also speaking, AfrYPoD’s Country Representative (Nigeria), Mr Mukhtar A. Ijaiya shared the plans of the country team to implement activities to mark the International Women’s Day, conduct awareness campaigns on environmental sanitation and hold monthly tweetchat to educate Nigerians on the SDGs. Also in AfrYPoD’s team was Ms Sandra Ibeh (Program Officer, Nigeria) and the leader of one of its partner organizations, Ms Chioma Chukwuka.
