The pioneer Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Justice Mustapha Akanbi (rtd) is dead.
Akanbi, who was also a former President of the Court of Appeal, died in the early hours of Sunday at a private hospital in Ilorin, the Kwara State, after a brief illness. He was aged 85.
One of Akanbi’s children, Muhammed, confirmed the demise of his father to our correspondent in Ilorin.
Muhammed said, “Yes, my father has gone to be with God.”
Akanbi was born in Accra, Ghana on September 11, 1932.
He was acclaimed an incorruptible judge, a foremost anti-graft czar and a community man.
Akanbi was a sports man, and the founder of Mustapha Akanbi Foundation. He also founded Maasalam Islamic Foundation, Mustapha Akanbi Library and Resource Center and Nana Aishat Academy, among others.
He was survived by many children and many grandchildren.
