The candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) Kayode Fayemi, has won the Ekiti governorship election after clinching victory in 12 out of the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State according to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His closest challenger is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prof. Kolapo Olushola who won in four local governments.
Olusola is the incumbent deputy governor of the state and was hoping to succeed his boss, Ayodele Fayose, who had done everything possible to help him get elected.
Fayemi as the incumbent governor, was defeated four years ago by Fayose. With this victory, he makes an incredible comeback.
There have been reports of large-scale vote-buying by supporters of both political parties. There were also cases of ballot box snatching reported across polling units in the state.
The results of the 16 local governments have been officially announced by INEC, which is however, still doing the final collation.
