FoodClique Partners Access Bank for Lagos City Marathon

FoodClique Support Initiatives a non-governmental hunger eradication body has rolled out plans to partner the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon tagged “Running from Old Lagos to New Lagos” with the aim of raising awareness for Hunger and Food waste.

This much was disclosed by the Founder and CEO of the organization Bolajoko Fadipe who stated in a briefing that “The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon coincides with the beginning of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Zero Hunger by 2030 the number two goal. So the Lagos City Marathon is an important and inspirational event that will help raise awareness about hunger and food waste.” He further explained that the awareness and funds raised through this partnership will have a lasting impact on the lives of people facing food insecurity and help fund others programs such as school meals, Food 4 Tot, After Hunger Rehabilitation Programs (AHRP) among others to serve as a safety net to compliment efforts made by the Governor of Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

In the words of Olukayode Thomas the Head of Media for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, about 35,000 marathoners are expected to gather for the epoch making event scheduled for February 6, 2016 with participants all over the world signaling their interest. He further stated that marathons are the number one money spinner for charity organizations having seen the London City Marathon raise about £800 million for charities, the largest in the world according to the Guinness Book of Record and this event would also be a fertile ground to do same and eradicate hunger in our society.

On his part, the Director of Media and Publicity of FoodClique Support Initiatives Adeola Adetola stated that “The partnership will be extremely beneficial towards raising awareness about hunger and food waste in our communities. We are tremendously pleased that Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will help expand our audience both locally and internationally.”

In preparation for the big day, about 200 volunteers will run for team FoodClique while foods will also be distributed to various individuals and cadres who are in need of one form of support or the other.
