George W. Bush Snr is ‘Voting for Clinton,’ Says Kennedy Family Member

It appears former President George H.W. Bush is with her.

According to reports, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the 92-year-old lifelong Republican is going against his party and casting his ballot for the wife of his former presidential successor – Hillary Clinton.

The eldest child of Ethel Kennedy and the late Robert F. Kennedy – and niece of former president John F. Kennedy – posted a picture of herself and the 41st president to her Facebook page on Monday with the caption: “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!”

Speaking with Politico on the phone Monday, the 65-year-old former Maryland lieutenant governor confirmed she was visiting Bush in Maine when he admitted that he’s with her.

“That’s what he said,” she explained.

Townsend uses her middle name, Hartington, on Facebook and has seemingly not made the post public, reports The New York Times.

Jim McGrath, a spokesman for George H.W. Bush, isn’t denying the choice – instead staying vague on the former president’s political preference.

“The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days,” McGrath told Politico. “He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.”

George H.W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton in the 1992 election, making him one of only five incumbent presidents to be prevented from serving a second term.

Both George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush have been silent in the current political debates since their son, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, dropped out of the race. While they previously campaigned for Jeb, neither appeared at the Republican National Convention this summer – where Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump officially accepted his nomination.

Like his parents, Jeb has also refused to endorse Trump – despite signing a “loyalty pledge” last summer promising to support the eventual Republican nominee.
