Unknown gunmen on Monday night attacked the Nigeria Police divisional headquarters at Ngo Town, the headquarters of Andoni local government area of Rivers State, Leadership reports.
The attack on the police station is coming barely three days after gunmen, suspected to be members of a cult group overran a Riot Police unit at Ubeta community in Ahoada-West local government area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmad Kidaya Muhammad, who confirmed the attack to newsmen in Port Harcourt, said no life was lost in the incident.
Muhammad said more security operatives have been deployed to the area, following the attack, saying that investigation is ongoing to arrest the masterminds behind the attack.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Laws (IHRHL) has called on Nigerians to speak out against the high level killings and general insecurity in Rivers State.
In a statement made available yesterday by its executive director, Anyakwee Nsirimovu, the IHRHL said, “The situation in the state erroneously subsumed under electoral politics, or mere fights by political gladiators, for the soul of the State, can hold no longer. What is being experienced in the state is gross and attested human rights violations, that must be given the urgent attention it deserves. ”
