I am Not Running for President in 2019 – Jonathan

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan attends the Africa Union Peace and Security Council Summit on Terrorism at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, September 2, 2014. African leaders proposed on Tuesday creating a special fund to combat Islamist militant groups growing in strength from Kenya to Nigeria. African Union (AU) states announced the idea after Nairobi talks on a problem highlighted on Tuesday by capture of a town in north-eastern Nigeria by Boko Haram militants. The immediate past president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has denied a report that he is interested in contesting the 2019 presidential election.

An online medium had reported that Jonathan declared interest to run for presidency in 2019 in Bayelsa yesterday, adding that the former president was inundated with calls from Nigerians to recontest and salvage the economy from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

But Daily Sun quotes Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, as denying the former president is considering taking another shot at the presidency.

Eze added that the former president never made any declaration on 2019 election, either in May or this month.
