Kogi: ‘You Are a Disgrace, Resign Immediately’ PDP NYF Tells AGF Malami

The PDP National Youth Frontier (PDP NYF) has called for the immediate resignation of the Attorney General of the Federation Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN describing him as a big embarrassment to the nation.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Coordinator of the group, Usman Austin Okai, Malami’s continued meddling with Kogi State internal affairs after the first problem he created is capable of plunging the State into chaos.

“It be recalled that Malami created a political crisis in Kogi State after the demise of governorship hopeful, Prince Abuabakar Audu by ordering Yahaya Bello to inherit the deceased’s votes in an election that he (Yahaya Bello) never participated in.

“The same Yahaya Bello came to power through this unpopular and questionable means and has taken the state backward by his dangerous moves in supporting 5 members of the House of Assembly against 15 members. By recognizing a 5-man faction of the Kogi State House of Assembly, it is obvious that he has uncharitably elevated his personal interest and Kogi State is now a venue for political merchandise and an orchestra platform for music dictated by the powers that be at the center.

“The group of 5 members claimed to have formed a quorum and orchestrated a kangaroo impeachment and as it stands, the National Assembly has intervened by taking over the legislative duties of Kogi State as dictated by the constitution. Only God knows the direction of the State!

“It is very worrisome to see the AGF behave in a manner that will appease his personal and/or party interest and that of his co conspirators. It is rather unfortunate that Kogi State which has hitherto remained as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria has been turned into a theater of political chaos and confusion by this singular step.

“We say this because an Attorney General is not like any ordinary lawyer. He or she is the chief legal advisor to the government. In that role, he or she is supposed to advise government dispassionately without any partisan interests.

“Malami is an embarrassment to the legal profession. What he represents in our politics is very shameful and unacceptable. It is the kind of politics that can never move our people forward. His idea of justice in Kogi State is only if the wishes of Governor Bello come to pass and he remains at the helm of affairs in the state.

“Shockingly, a group of concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State on Friday accused the wife of President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari of having a suspicious relationship with the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello which they claimed is capable of compromising the ongoing petitions against the declaration of Bello as winner of last year’s governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The Kogi APC stakeholders, through their Coordinator, Chief Dare Mayegun, raised the alarm after information of a meeting between the wife of the president and the Kogi Governor emerged. With the above revelation coming from the APC, it is obvious that Kogi state has been completely hijacked by outside interests whose only interest in Kogi State is their selfish agenda.

“I call on every responsible citizen of Kogi State to stand up against this political invasion of our homeland. We must resist them,” the statement said.
