Hundreds of Liberians around the country woke up as early as 5am this morning to perform their patriotic duties as citizens of Africa’s oldest republic to vote for the next president who will replace Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first female president.

Today’s elections will feature over 22 presidential candidates including the current vice president, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, and the world’s footballer of the year, George Manneh Weah.

This election historically is the first’ in 50 years for a democratically elected president of Liberia.

Dozens of international election observers including international journalists are in the country to carefully observe today’s election.
