A mob in Lagos have murdered a police officer attached with Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) to retaliate the death of an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management (LASTMA) Adeyemo Rotimi who was shot by the police officer.

An eyewitness said there was a disagreement between the unknown SARS officer and Adeyemo on Wednesday.

As the disagreement got heater the FSARS official took a gun inside his Toyota Highlander SUV and shot Rotimi.

A few hours later, the police officer was attacked by hoodlums who beat him to ‘stupor’. He died while being rushed to the hospital.

“The Inspector that allegedly shot dead late Rotimi Adeyemo ‘m’ at Iyana-Ipaja Roundabout, Lagos at 6 pm of 28.11.2018 was beaten to stupor by an irate mob at the scene. This policeman also died while being rushed to the hospital,” Police spokesman Abayomi Sogunle said in a tweet.

He stated that “The name of the policeman is withheld because his NOK (next of kin) is yet to be notified by NPF (Nigeria Police Force).”

The police spokesman also disclosed that both corpses have been deposited at Mainland General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

He disclosed that the “State CID Panti Yaba, Lagos is investigating the circumstances surrounding this double-murder case.”

LASTMA, however, on Thursday confirmed the death of Rotimi.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our gallant officers, Adeyemo Rotimi, who was murdered in cold blood by suspected FSARS operative while discharging his lawful duties at his point in Iyana Ipaja on the 28th of November, 2018,” LASTMA said.
