Presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu on Monday said that his vision for Nigeria will not survive inside the country’s two biggest political party structures, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He added that both parties have held Nigerians hostage.
Moghalu disclosed this in an exclusive Independence Day tweet chat with The Weekend Show.
The former Deputy Governor of Nigeria’s apex bank was reacting to a series of questions in the tweet chat which lasted almost two hours, when the question popped up: “What makes you confident that you can beat President Buhari in 2019, especially as your party the YPP does not have the structure of PDP and APC?”
In his response, Moghalu said: “This matter of “structure” is how the PDP & APC have kept us in bondage. We should vote for a party and a candidate that can deliver Nigeria and stop being accomplices in our own suffering. The YPP has structures in 36 states.
“As a candidate, I also have my personal structures across the country – The Kingsley Moghalu Support Organization (KIMSO) & The Kingsley Moghalu Volunteers Force (KMVF). We as Nigerians must now create a new reality in 2019.
“Besides, both the APC & PDP practise political apartheid in the form of “zoning”, which would automatically disqualify my vision for our country from seeing the light of day because I come from the “wrong” part of Nigeria.”

Q1 – Nigeria is 58 years post-independence today, how would you describe this 58 years journey?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar pic.twitter.com/vvIqu0ZPUQ
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A1- At 58 years old, Nigeria is still a nation waiting to be born. The labours of our heros past, the vision of our founding fathers, and the promise of our independence in 1960 have all been betrayed. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q2 – Nigeria was once referred to as the Giant of Africa. It appears the story has changed. What happened?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A2 – What happened was that our country progressively deteriorated in terms if its internal stability and cohesion. You cannot give what you don’t have. If you are unstable at home, you cannot be a giant abroad. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q3 – Statistics show Nigeria to have been better organized in the colonial era than what it is today. Did Nigeria’s Independence come a bit too early?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A3 Part1 – No. Military intervention in governance derailed our development process. Unfortunately, the soilders that derailed our development are still calling the shots today, disguised as civilian politicians. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q4 – The global performance index have not been in our favour lately with Nigeria scoring low in almost every sector. What is responsible?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A4 Part 1 – We are unable, or unwilling to organise ourselves, our economy and our governance to be competitive against other countries. This is the result of visionless, incompetent and corrupt politicians who don’t care about our people at large. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
A4 Part 2 – We as citizens are collaborators with these greedy politicians when we keep voting for them under various excuses. Global competitiveness requires leaders capable of long term visionary thinking and implementation. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q5 – You are running for President under the Young Progressive Party (YPP). Why not PDP or APC?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A5 Part1 – The reality is that neither APC nor PDP can deliver this country from bondage because they are the ones holding us hostage. So, we can’t solve the problem by getting into bed with it. We can only shift this paradigm from outside. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q7 – A lot has been said about your time at the CBN, and how you have been part of the very system you speak so much against recently. What are your thoughts on this?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A7 Part 1- The CBN that I was part of from 2009 to 2014 was an oasis of transformation in a country that was already in a steep decline into poverty because the government at the time failed to make the poor masses their focus. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
A7 Part 2 – I personally led the implementation of massive reforms in the banking sector as CBN Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability. We also introduced the BVN (under my supervision) and the POS that most Nigerians use today. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q8 – Nigeria today has become the poverty capital of the world as shown by latest global statistics. If elected president, how would you tackle poverty in Nigeria?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
Q8 Part 1 – As President, I will tackle poverty by equipping all our youth with skills that make them employable. This is how to break the cycle of poverty. We will establish skills training centres in all of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q8 Part 2 – These centres will train the youth in IT, industrial & agricultural production skills for a 21st century economy. We will also establish a N1trillion venture capital fund which will fund new businesses and create millions of new jobs. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
A8 Part 3 – We will create a social security system for our old and aged citizens and the most vulnerable in our society. We will increase access to skills based education to break generational cycles of poverty. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q9 – @feladurotoye is the presidential candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN). He is equally as young and appeals to a section of the Nigerian youth demography, just like you. Is he a threat to your presidential ambition?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
A9 – No. I am focused on retiring @MBuhari in 2019. Nigerian youths should vote for a presidential candidate who is experienced in and can handle the issues (economy, diplomacy etc) a real President will face, not just one who is “young”. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Q10 – Your campaign has been described as too elitist without a connection to the grassroots. How solid is your grassroots base?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
Q10 – This perception is a fallacy. I have verifiably had more interactions with citizens at the grassroots than any other presidential candidate in the race today. Town halls in over 23 States, rural structures in over 30 States down to ward levels.#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
Finally,
With the aftermath of #OsunRerun, do you have any confidence in @inecnigeria‘s ability to conduct free and fair polls in 2019?@MoghaluKingsley#NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar— The Weekend (@WeekendShowNG) October 1, 2018
AQ11 Part 1 – We as a people must resolve to defeat the tyranny of the APC & the no-option PDP in the 2019 presidential election. All the APC care about is to retain power. All the PDP care about is to come back to “chop” with no real vision. #NigeriaAt58 #JourneySoFar
— Kingsley Moghalu (@MoghaluKingsley) October 1, 2018
A11 Part 2 – We must end this mentality of a defeated people held captive by the political class. Our reality is what we make it. If 60million people of the 84million registered voters come out and vote for YPP in 2019, no Jupiter can rig the elections successfully. #NigeriaAt58
