Nigeria: Many Injured as Suspected Terrorists Launch New Attack on Owo

Ondo State governor Rotimi Akeredolu visited Owo town during the first terror attack in June, 2022

Exactly 52 days after terrorists attacked St Francis Catholic Church in Owo in Nigeria’s southwest Ondo State, killing 40 people and injuring many others, there has been another attack on the town.

Vanguard reports that many people were injured in the attack which took place Wednesday evening, at Folahanmi Junction, where a construction company Craneburg Construction Company is located.

It was learnt that the gunmen opened fire on people at the site. An eyewitness said explosives were also used during the attack.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident to Vanguard, saying three persons were injured during a shootout in the town.

Odunlami said she could not confirm if the attackers were terrorists or bandits.

She said, “Tonight, there was a shooting incident at Craneburg Construction Company, Owo. Policemen are currently at the scene, victims have been taken to hospital and they are in stable condition.

“We cannot ascertain the casualty figure now and we also cannot say it was a terrorist attack with the use of explosives devices but tomorrow (Thursday) morning, the EOD men of the command would go to the scene.”
