Governors and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have come under fire in the social media for neglecting Stanley Nwabia – a popular social commentator who died in the early hours of Sunday following an unsuccessful blood transfusion procedure in Lagos. He was 43.
Ojugo Onyeluka (@GentleOjay) announced the development in a tweet.
I am so heart broken right now… we just lost our dear brother @MrStanleyNwabia to the cold hands of death through illness.
May he find eternal Rest in the bossom of God…
RIP bro ????????????
— HIS EXCELLENCY (@gentleojay) September 29, 2019
Nwabia was a loyal supporter of the PDP and passionately promoted the party through his tweets, earning him great respect and admiration amongst the opposition commentators online.
Tambuwal is NOT a weak candidate.
Atiku is NOT a weak candidate.
Dankwambo is NOT a weak candidate.Saraki is DEFINITELY not a weak candidate.
One of them will emerge this weekend as PDP flag bearer.
We MUST support whoever emerges like no man’s business.
— Prof Stanley Nwabia (@MrStanleyNwabia) October 3, 2018
Nwabia was also a vocal critic of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which regularly put him in conflict with pro-Buhari social media users.
On a serious note, I always feel sorry for those that keep demanding ‘Good Governance’ from Buhari. It’s like asking a Chimpanzee to recite the Alphabets.
— Prof Stanley Nwabia (@MrStanleyNwabia) August 9, 2019
Reactions and tributes have poured out in the social media in the wake of his death with condemnation of leaders of the PDP who reportedly ignored his appeals for support while his health deteriorated.
Former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar on Sunday took the lead with a tweet mourning the demise of Nwabia. Dissenting reactions coloured with outrage have followed:
It is a cause for sobering emotions to read about the sudden demise of @MrStanleyNwabia. A patriotic Nigerian and forthright supporter of our great party. God Almighty console his family and may his soul Rest In Peace – AA.https://t.co/Vfq4ilwDft
— Atiku Abubakar (@atiku) September 29, 2019
Taaa! Getaway ! The people you paid money to used same money for their pockets and left a soldier like Stanley who stood his grounds for you to die.
Get out with your nonsense pearl shaped words https://t.co/kb1s1KttKT
— Nimrod The Revolutionary (@GhenhisKhan) September 29, 2019
The people you released funds to disburse to social media supporters like @MrStanleyNwabia embezzled them. I understand he reached out to them to raise funds for his health issues and they ignored him. Give his kids scholarship and his family N20m. Tweeting alone won’t cut it.
— ThankGod Ukachukwu (@kcnaija) September 29, 2019
A party with over 13 governors can’t help one of their members who was sick.
— Comrade Deji Adeyanju (@adeyanjudeji) September 29, 2019
So Stanley reached out to these yeye PDP people & they didn’t help him but they can dash ashewo money and take them to Dubia. You guys are just bastards I swear.
God punish all of you.
— Comrade Deji Adeyanju (@adeyanjudeji) September 29, 2019
learnt that Stanley Nwabia reached out to @renoomokri and other PDP bigwigs to help him,but reno prefer to share 1k on the TL 4 clout.Same reason ur loyal members went rogue
A party he defended even on his sick bed
See eh, if you believe that PDP is better than APC, think again— DEMAGOGUE PhD.????senior advocat???? (@von_Bismack) September 29, 2019
So Stanley reached out to his political leaders that he was sick and needed help, yet they ignored him?
You people will not die well.
— Henry Shield (@henryshield) September 29, 2019
If truly Mr Stanley Nwabia reached out to his political leaders in PDP and they ignored him then we can safely say we have beast, corrupt and selfish individuals in @OfficialPDPNig that are not different from this disasters in power.
But Dem go pay Dubai trip for olosho sharply.
— Taita (@simingi) September 29, 2019
Just coming on Twitter and seeing that @MrStanleyNwabia is dead and that he reached out to the PDP politicians that he was I’ll and needed help RIP Nwanna #sad
— Emeka ogbonnaya (@chukwuemeka3131) September 29, 2019
@MrStanleyNwabia supported @OfficialPDPNig with his chest!!
He supported @atiku on this street!!
He was abused and called names because of PDP!
He fell ill and reached out to the party for help and they couldn’t help him.
I am so angry with PDP right now!
Shame on PDP!
— ATIKU IS COMING ☺???????????????????????? (@PDP_2019) September 29, 2019
This isn’t about entitlement but @MrStanleyNwabia was one of PDP’s finest on Twitter. Coming through for him was one of the easiest thing they could have done but . . . https://t.co/sH59GWhHcc
— Dr. Slice ???????????? (@DrSlice01) September 29, 2019
I am in shock….@MrStanleyNwabia is gone? Did not even know he was sick. To all those evil people in Wadata…may God punish you. That is how a staff of PDP had a son with a hole in his heart and you all could not help him. It took ordinary Nigerians to reach out to support him.
— Babasola Kuti (@RealSolaKuti) September 29, 2019
So I heard Mr Stanley Nwabia reached out to some members of the PDP and they didn’t help him but Dubai is their second home.
Lifeless Party.
— Comrade Wisdom Echefula ???????? (@WEchefula) September 29, 2019
However, a Twitter user Dokun Ojomo thinks otherwise. Tweeting from a contrary perspective, he blamed “APC online herdsmen” for spreading “false information” about Nwabia reaching out for support.
Dear all
Do not allow APC & their online herdsmen to use false information to divide us
There is no evidence to show that @MrStanleyNwabia asked PDP for financial help.
However, I suggest we contribute something for his family
