After serving as National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for one year and four months, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has finally resigned.
He becomes the first National Chairman of the party to resign from office.
Also submitting his letter of resignation was Senator Iyiola Omisore, the party’s national secretary.
Sen. Abubakar Kyari, the party’s acting national chairman, announced the development on Tuesday during a vital NWC meeting.
The news of the Chairman and Secretary’s resignation at the weekend was put to rest by the latest development.
The two party leaders’ resignation was announced by the interim chairman, Senator Kyari, who was also the Deputy National Chairman (North), to reporters following the NWC meeting.
According to Kyari: “The NWC wishes to inform you (the press), of the resignation of the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and that of the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
“With this development, and according to the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), it is now incumbent on my humble self, Senator Abubakar Kyari as the Deputy National Chairman (North) to assume the office of the Acting National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, (APC) And subsequently
“Also, the Deputy National Secretary, Barrister Festus Fuanter will now assume the office of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
On the National Caucus and NEC meetings, the Acting Chairman said: “With this recent development in the change of leadership, I like to inform everybody here that the proposed national caucus meeting slated for Tuesday 18th July 2023 and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC slated for Wednesday 19th July 2023 has hereby been postponed. And this postponement will not be indefinite but a new date will be communicated shortly.”
