Nigeria U-23 football team put all the controversies about allowances aside to secure a berth in the semi finals of the football event of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on Saturday with 2-0 defeat of Denmark.

Nigeria’s captain,  Mikel John Obi, opened converted a pass from Imoh Ezekiel in the 16th minute of the first half to give the Eagles their first goal of the match.

Though Nigeria dominated the game, but the Danes were able to soak in the attack until the 59th minute when Aminu Umar pounced on a corner kick by Mikel Obi and tucked it into the net.

Efforts by the Danes to come back to the game were frustrated by the Nigerian defence team as well as brilliant goalkeeping by Emmanuel Daniel.

Nigeria will face Germany in the semi final slated for next Wednesday.
