Seven Arrested in Connection With Assassination Attempt on Dino Melaye

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested seven persons in connection with the assassination attempt on Senator Dino Melaye at his country home, Aiyetoro-Gbede, last Saturday.

Melaye had last Saturday escaped unhurt when gunmen invaded his house shooting sporadically as they destroyed two vehicles and riddled his building with bullets.

Sources close to the Kogi State Police Command disclosed on Monday that a black jeep suspected to have been used for the operation   alongside a cache of ammunition was found by the State  Criminal Investigation Department.

The sources further disclosed that the seven suspects were arrested at different locations while the black jeep and the ammunition had been impounded by the Kogi State Police Command.

It was also gathered that security agents were still hunting for the remaining suspects while the command had ordered the Administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area, Taofiq Isa, to report to the Kogi State Police Command.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Ayah, while reacting to the report said investigation was still on.

Isa had been accused by Melaye of being the mastermind of the attempt on his life.

The LGA administrator, however, denied having a hand in the assassination attempt on Melaye, saying he was busy on the day of the incident attending to his sick wife and supervising the All Progressives Congress’ re-registration exercise.

Isa had said, “I’ve never been a violent man. My running battle with Dino if any is because I have asked him to stop vilifying the state Governor, Yahaya Bello.”
