Six Lagos PDP Lawmakers Decamp to APC

Six members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) out of eight in the Lagos State House of Assembly formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during yesterday’s sitting, The Guardian reports.

After the letter stating their defection was read by the acting Clerk of the House, Azeez Sanni, the members: Mosunmola Sangodara, Surulere 2; Fatai Oluwa, Ajeromi Ifelodun 2; Dayo Famakinwa, Ajeromi Ifelodun 1; Hakeem Sokunle, Oshodi-Isolo 2 and Jude Idimogwu, Oshodi-Isolo 1; took time to explain why they left PDP.

The minority leader, Akeem Bello, was the last to announce his defection. They claimed they left the party because of the inherent crisis and leadership tussle and the outstanding performance of governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, commended and welcomed them with the song, “You are welcome in the name of the Lord, and I can see all over you, the glory of the Lord.”

Swiftly, the Lagos State chapter of the PDP said it was not yet officially aware of the defection of its six lawmakers. According to the Spokesman of the party, Mr. Taofik Gani, “We don’t want to comment on that yet. We are still consulting to know which position to take. We shall speak on that at the appropriate time.”

A member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Ebenezer Babatope said the defected lawmaker are going to regret their actions in the nearest future because nobody pushed them out of the PDP. He said the defection would not affect the prospect of the party.
