Those Doubting Kano Results Are Ignorant – Ganduje

Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, says those questioning the votes cast for President Muhammadu Buhari in Kano, are “unserious and ignorant” of the state’s politics.

Ganduje spoke when he visited Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 1,464,768 votes in Kano ahead of Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 391,593 votes.

Buhari got his highest votes from Kano.

Ganduje had promised to deliver 5 million votes for the president. The governor said the low turnout of voters was the reason he could not deliver on his promise.

However, Kano could not have given Buhari 5 million votes. An analysis done by TheCable showed that Kano had 5,457,747 registered voters but only 4,696,747 collected their biometric cards

“First of all they are not serious people, they are people who are anti-democracy. If you have seen how the election was conducted, I think everybody will agree that INEC tried very well,” Ganduje said.

“Even though there was low turn out of voters because we were expecting to get much more than that, but the election was fair and free. Those who say we couldn’t have got that much are ignorant of the politics of Kano.”

On his five million votes promise, he said: “Well, I told you is because of the low turn out of voters but I promise You next time…let’s look towards the governorship election.”

On his chances of winning the March 9 gubernatorial election, Ganduje said he is heading for success.

According to him, the result of the presidential and the national assembly has put the APC in the good stead to win the election.

“My chances are very high and you can see the beginning of it with the presidential elections,” he said.

“We gave Mr. President the highest number votes, all the three senators are back, 24 House of Representatives members out of 24 have succeeded. What else are you expecting? That is the foundation.

“Another thing is that Mr. President has done a lot of work in Nigeria and in Kano and as a government we have done a lot in Kano State. If there was negative reaction, we would have seen it from the presidential election.

“That is why I say we are heading for a huge success in Kano both in the gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections.

“We are forging ahead in terms of getting the right thing done in Nigeria. So, I’m here to congratulate him personally before we come as a group from Kano to congratulate him.”
