Birnin Gwari Attack: Army Confirms Death of Two Soldiers, 10 Bandits

Authorities of the Nigerian Army have confirmed that two soldiers were killed and three others wounded during a gun battle with armed bandits in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state.

A statement issued by the army on Friday ,says the soldiers who were attached to the Operation CLEAN SWEEP carried out Clearance operation in Kuduru forest to flush out remnants of armed bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements in Birnin Gwari when the incident occurred.

It adds that 10 of the bandits were also killed by soldiers while others escaped with gunshot wounds during the operation.

The statement also disclosed that the two deceased soldiers were among the five that were wounded during the exchange of fire with the bandits, adding that the bandits’ camp was also destroyed.

According to the statement, The General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General faruk Yahaya who has visited the wounded soldiers at the 44 Army Reference Hospital in the Kaduna state capital, where he commended them for their gallantry performance , and also promised that their sacrifice would not go in vain. .

It also quotes the GOC as saying that the bravery and dedication to duty by the deceased soldiers is exemplary that every
Nigerian soldier and indeed Nigerians should be proud of, promising that the soldiers will be given befitting burials after informing the families of the tragic loss.
