Buhari Signs N983bn 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Bill into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari , has on Monday signed the 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Bill into law.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President of the National Assembly (House of Representatives), Umar El-yakub, revealed this while briefing State House Correspondents after the signing in Abuja.

The supplementary budget which totalled N982,729,695,343 will largely fund security and health concerns.

This comes one month after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Buhari approved a draft supplementary budget of N895,842,462,917 for the year 2021.

The budget was primarily for the procurement of equipment for the military and medical infrastructure as well as COVID-19 vaccines.

Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed had in June revealed that the budget aggregates to N770.60 bn and will enhance the capacity of the defense and the security agencies to address current and emerging security challenges in our country.

The minister had explained that N83.56bn expenditure is set aside in the budget for COVID-19 vaccine programme, covering 30 million vaccines from Johnson and Johnson and the logistics costs related to the deployment of the vaccines.

The budget also provides N40bn to cater for the allowances to the health, education sectors and other wage related issues.

Ahmed had also said that the supplementary budget also had N1.69 billion for the Nigeria Comprehensive AIDS Programme.
