Daniel Onjeh Using Politics for Fundraising Just Like He Did With NANS – Group

Youths for Change and Reforms, a socio-political advocacy group has berated the APC senatorial candidate in the Benue South senatorial rerun, Mr. Daniel Onjeh for making politics his permanent career and means of livelihood.

In a statement issued by the group on Friday and signed by its convener, Zion Onazi, the group said it was saddened that Daniel Onjeh, the Benue South Senatorial Candidate for All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last rerun elections is yet to turn a new leaf from using every available opportunity to defraud unsuspecting supporters in the name of raising money for his political campaigns.

“We really wish that Onjeh will stop defrauding and “scoping” his victims and get a life. It is disheartening that the only qualification on his resume is: a ‘Former Student Union Leader’.

“We have watched with keen interest the activities of Onjeh in the field of politics all these years and it is regrettable that he has also turned partisan political platforms into a mega scam, milking some unsuspecting politicians of their hard earned money. Onjeh has been contesting elections not to win but to make money, and sometimes through blackmails. He is one candidate who gets richer with every election he participates in.

“We wish to alert well-meaning Nigerians, Benue leaders, stakeholders in the ruling APC and unsuspecting Nigerians not to fall victims of Onjeh’s antics again. We are aware that he is currently grandstanding, threatening the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the senatorial rerun elections or declare it inconclusive. We wish to inform the public that this is another ploy to raise money under the guise of pursuing a phantom appeal at the Tribunals in order to make more money.

“We also want to call on the leadership of the APC to investigate the activities of Onjeh and how he managed all the money given to him by some rich party members. We have it on good authority that he barely disbursed 20 per cent of the money given to him for the elections, while he has converted the rest to buying properties, buying luxury cars and maintaining his convoy. We know that Onjeh will soon hit the street to raise more money for his court case again, which as usual will be converted to other purposes.

“Onjeh is also alleged to have desecrated and used the platforms of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to defraud various government institutions, corporate organizations and individuals as NANS President. It is not hidden that he was forcefully removed from NANS, but later went on to create another dodgy platform – the West African Students Union (WASU), which was a fall back strategy to sustain his fundraising tactics after failing with NANS.

“We have refrained ourselves from joining issues with Onjeh or alerting some Nigerians who are unaware of his ignoble activities, hoping that he would have a rethink and build a good name. But Onjeh will not change because he has also found in politics a fertile ground to continually defraud his victims.

“This young man is a bad representation of Nigerian Youths. He has not worked one day. He has no single record of any career anywhere yet he has an array of expensive cars, lives in hotels and recently bought a house in Gwarimpa area of Abuja. What examples are we presenting to our youths?

“Has anyone asked Onjeh why he failed to graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Minna?

“Onjeh should desist henceforth from pursuing this path on the road to perdition. He is bringing dishonor not only to himself, but on all Nigerian youths.”
