DEFAMATION | Court Grants Order of Substituted Service Against Omojuwa

Deji Adeyanju

Kayode Sesan | Lagos

An Abuja High Court on Tuesday granted an order of substituted service in a case of defamation brought against blogger and social media activist, Japheth Omojuwa.

In the case instituted at the Abuja High Court against Mr. Omojuwa for defamatory statements made against Mr. Deji Adeyanju, the plaintiff is seeking damages awarded to the tune of N50, 000,000.

Mr. Adeyanju who spoke to SIGNAL on Wednesday said Mr. Omojuwa had been evading attempts to serve him his court papers, hence the prayer to the court to grant an order of substituted service, which was granted by the court on Tuesday.

Court documents made exclusively available to SIGNAL on Tuesday confirm the court order. According to the documents, Mr. Omojuwa will now be served with the court papers pasted at his residential address in Abuja.

Deji Adeyanju, an Abuja based socio-political activist had sued Mr. Omojuwa for defamation in May 2015.

The case of defamation against Mr. Omojuwa is partly connected to a story purportedly concocted by him (Mr. Omojuwa) against Mr. Adeyanju in May 2014.
