Governor Obaseki Calls for Prayers to End Recession

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday, called for prayers from religious bodies to end the current recession, saying the peaceful conduct of the governorship election in the state was as a result of prayers, Vanguard reports.

Obaseki made the call in Benin, when the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House.

Obaseki, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, said Pastor Kumuyi’s visit to the state was apt and a divine call.

According to him, “In our state we have a brand new Oba, in the person of Oba Ewaure II, and a brand new leadership. We believe that with this programme, Showers of Blessing, God’s hand is in Edo, and as a state we would want to tap from the anointing.

“Though we have recession in the country now, we believe it will end. We want you to pray for the state and the country so that the recession will end.”

The governor also disclosed that government was putting emphasis on job creation, noting that though the administration was just a few weeks old, steps taken so far would ensure that all electioneering promises were kept. He further appreciated the prayers of religious leaders during the last governorship election in the state, saying it was the first time in the history of the state that election had been conducted peacefully without any recorded incidence of violence.

His words: “We appreciate your prayers during the last governorship election in the state. It is the first time in the history of the state that election was conducted peacefully without any recorded incidence of violence. We will continue to rely on your prayers and counsel.”

Earlier, Pastor Kumuyi said he was in the state for his congregation’s mass gathering and to be a blessing to the state. He disclosed that he had been to the state previously in the year and was in the state again to end the year with the state. Kumuyi said the theme of the programme was “Showers of Blessings.”

He said with the programme, he was optimistic that showers of blessings would fall in the state and the ministry would want to partner with the government to be a source of blessing to the state.
