Kidnapped Lagos Students Will Return Soon – Osinbajo

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Sunday assured Nigerians that the six students  kidnapped from the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla-Epe, on May 25 would soon regain their freedom.

According to some messages posted on Twitter by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Acting President spoke in an interview with journalists in Lagos.

He was said to have described the experience of the kidnapped students’ parents as traumatic.

“Our hearts are with the parents. I know how difficult it is for them at this time. The governor has done a lot of work and has been speaking with me.

“All security apparatus of government are focused to ensure those children are brought back safely. It has to be done with due care.

“I have also been speaking with some neighbouring state governors who have also been helpful. So, we look forward to the children’s safe return,” Akande quoted Osinbajo as saying.

Osinbajo, therefore, urged the parents and guardians of the kidnapped boys not to lose hope on the return of their children and wards.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Osinbajo spoke on the sidelines of the birthday thanksgiving service of Pastor Salami Ololade in Lagos.

“It t is very a traumatic experience for the parents, there should be no doubt at all about the commitment of the government.

“I don’t know how many times the governor has spoken to me about this and the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, the DSS and even the Armed Forces.

“I am sure these children will return as quickly as possible, so we look forward to their return,” NAN quoted Osinbajo as saying.

The Acting President was also said to have advised children who are on holidays to learn something new that would impact their lives and those of their communities.

“Because it is a long holiday, it is a great time to do something new. Those who like to learn a skill whatever skill that may be, I wish that when I was growing up I learned even carpentry,” he said.

Osinbajo had earlier attended the anniversary service of the Trinity House, Lagos before joining Ololade for his 60th birthday thanksgiving service.
