Nigerians on Twitter are reacting to a footage of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari speaking at the Climate Action Summit 2019 held during the ongoing 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
In the video which has now gone viral, President Buhari was seated on a panel with other world leaders and was expected to discuss matters arising on the subject matter.
Buhari was asked by the moderator, “President Buhari, Nigeria has a very young population. Perhaps you might highlight what a pathway for a resilient future looks like?” Responding to the question, Buhari completely went off tangent, pulling out a prepared speech which he read.
The video was shared on Twitter by Tolu Ogunlesi, the President’s Special Assistant on New Media.

On his part, Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant to President Buhari on New Media who also shared the video yesterday has now deleted it from his handle.
Below are some reactions to the video:
This video is a disservice to the President. Poor PR job.
Why not edit out the question aspect, before posting? The answer was at variance with the question asked.
Not a good job @BashirAhmaad & @toluogunlesi

Bashir posted it as a video from Tolu’s handle…. I am yet to see any Buhari’s aides that is competent. https://t.co/H20b9WP4Sm

Buhari was asked questions about what he’s doing about youth population in Nigeria.
Baba went off off off off point and immediately started talking about climate change from a written note.
Buhari can no longer process anything intelligently. pic.twitter.com/az2MCkJWbT

I really don’t know what is going on in that Buhari’s UN video but no one should be reading a speech from a paper or iPad or whatever on a panel discussion. You should speak from your head and engage the audience. That is if it is a panel discussion.

If Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari had any iota of clue he would immediately sack all his appointees that posted that disastrous video of his bumbling response to a question asked but he is clueless and his appointees love his cluelessness. They can get away with anything!

Watching this video is very painful. A man not aware of what he is doing is governing our nation. pic.twitter.com/NMFu2RC2i3

Watch this video of General @MBuhari at the @UN and pray for him. The lady asked him him what pathway Nigeria has for a resilient future for her young population and General Buhari answered something completely different about CLIMATE CHANGE!#FreeLeahSharibu #RenosDarts pic.twitter.com/jdkpYhRnLt

Buhari: Your Excellencies, kapachumarimarichupako, climate change, a ti lo a ti de.
It’s shameful that Tolu & Bashir decided to post it online.— Zaddy Ajala (@UNCLE_AJALA) September 25, 2019
You people’s President Buhari was asked about the future of the resilient Nigerian Youths at the #UNGA, Baba responded with an affidavit answer about the climate change and how the youths are going to be engaged in PLANTING TREES to curb it.

Tolu and Bashir should lose September salary for that video That video depicts the state of this presidency.. How can you be asked 2×2 and you begin to recite the Lord’s prayer. pic.twitter.com/AkYr9cDMET

If we are to be in a county where people have an iota of Shame, Bashir Ahmad and Tolu Ogunlesi should have tendered their resignation letters this morning. They exposed the President to ridicule at the UN, but this is Nigeria, they won’t resign neither will they be sacked!

This was REALLY painful to watch.
Mans didn’t understand the question.
Mans went to a panel discussion with a typed speech.
Mans struggled to read said typed speech with any coherence.
Then Mans PA decides to post the video.

Apparently, it’s not only yahoo boys that are disgracing me abroad.
Even Buhari is out there disgracing me.I’m fucked.????

I’m not quite sure this does President @MBuhari a world of good as posted. There’s no connection between question & his answer. Cld his handlers not have considered posting this without the question that preceded what was supposed to be his response? https://t.co/19LKXorc6u
— Chidi Odinkalu (@ChidiOdinkalu) September 25, 2019
God, no! This is painful to watch. The question wasn’t about climate change. He was asked about the place of the youth in Nigeria’s future, and, unfortunately, he read out an unrelated script as a response. You, the President’s media handlers, are his biggest undoing. https://t.co/Nwu9Qctf9r
