A Shiite Muslim group Saturday attempted to assassinate the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Burutai when his convoy was attacked in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Nigerian Army said in a tweet on Saturday.

At least seven persons were reportedly killed during the clash between soldiers and members of the radical sect.
Co-incidentally, President Muhammadu Buhari, a resident of Kaduna before he became President, was in the state for the Kaduna Music Festival where was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate degree by the Kaduna State University during its convocation ceremony. Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote was also at the event.
