Voter Registration: NAF To Airlift INEC Materials To Borno

The Nigerian Air Force has agreed to airlift registration materials for the ongoing voter registration in five local government areas of Borno State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, quoted the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, as having made the comment during a meeting of the INEC Chairman and the Air Chief at the NAF headquarters Abuja in a statement on Friday.

The Air Chief was said to have given the assurance following a request by the INEC Chairman for materials for the ongoing exercise to be airlifted to five of the local government areas whose roads are believed to have been mined by the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

The five local government areas are Bama, Chibok, Danbua, Gwoza and Kala Balge.

The Air Chief was also said to have given the assurance that the Air Force had the C100 cargo aircraft that could be deployed to airlift such materials to all parts of the country.

He said, “This is the kind of partnership we are actually looking for since we have the assets given to us by the government of Nigeria and we can use these assets to support any agency of government.

“For us in the Air Force, we are very happy to get involved, to support you in whichever way we can. The local governments you talked about are the areas where we operate every day, day and night. We will give you every support that you need to ensure that you conduct a successful registration exercise.”
