We Will Fix Nigeria’s Economy – Osinbajo

Yemi Adebowale

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said emphatically yesterday that President Muhammadu Buhari, together with him and other members of the cabinet will ensure that they fix the Nigerian economy and rid the nation of corrupt practices.

He stated this during the grand finale of the annual Ereke Day festival held in Ikenne, Ogun State, adding that the nation cannot be allowed to continue in a mess.

Osinbajo added that his generation and other young people from Ikenne town would perform better because late Chief Obafemi Awolowo has prayed that the young generation of people from Ikenne would be greater than him.

Fielding questions from journalists thereafter, he disclosed that the Federal Government would play important roles in the burial of late matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.

The reason, according to him, was because HID was not just the wife of the first Premier of Western Region of Nigeria but wife of the first Leader of Opposition in Nigerian parliament and former Vice Chairman of the Federal Executive Council and Federal Commissioner of Finance.

He lamented that though Ikenne was one of the great towns in Nigeria and the world which has produced 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), among which he is one, when some states have not produced up to that, its development was still far below expectation.

“For a town that produced the first Premier of Western Region, 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), first Leader of Opposition in Nigeria and the current Vice President of the country, its development needs to be more than this,” he said.

He, however, promised to do all within his capacity to ensure the youths of the town are mobilized and encouraged to foster the development of the town.

He was accompanied byhis wife, Dolapo and wife of the Ogun State governor, Mrs. Funso Amosun. The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba (Dr.) Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, notable legal icons, Chief Idowu Sofola and Kayode Sofola; National Assembly lawmaker, Hon. Dipo Adebutu and other dignitaries who were there to witness and participate in the epoch-making event.
