18 Killed, 6,637 Houses Destroyed in Jigawa Flood Tragedy

No less than 18 people have been confirmed died and a total of 6,637 houses have been washed away by flood in about 19 local government areas in Jigawa state.

This was disclosed by the executive secretary State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Yusuf Sani while speaking to news men in his office said that the incidents occurred during the current rainy season.

Alhaji Yusif Sani explained that the people died in Gwaram, Dutse, Jahun, and Gumel other local governments that recorded deaths includes Guri, Ringim and Kazaure local government areas of the state.

The executive secretary said that the flood destroyed houses in Dutse  in Jahun; in Hadejia, in Babura; in Ringim; in Gumel; in Malammadori and  in Birninkudu local government areas.

According to him, the disaster also claimed houses in Taura;  in Kazaure; in Maigatari; in Gagarawa; in Buji; in Kirikasamma; in Garki; in Kiyawa; in Kafinhausa; in Gwaram and in Suletankarkar local government areas.

Sani added that some of deaths were as a result of building collapse, adding that three persons also sustained injuries when some of the buildings crashed.
