Buhari Picks New Ministers to Replace Ocholi, Mohammed

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday night forwarded the names of two ministerial nominees to the Senate as replacements for the late Mr. James Enojo Ocholi (SAN) and Mrs. Amina Mohammed.

The letter which contained the names of the nominees from Kogi and Gombe states  arrived the senate late Tuesday.

The nominees, Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan are to fill the vacant ministerial positions in the Federal Executive Council.

Mr. Ocheni is from Kogi State which has not had anyone in the FEC, as constitutionally required, since the death of James Ochonu in an accident last year.

Mr. Hassan, Gombe State, is to replace Amina Mohammed who left Nigeria’s public service to take up top responsibility at the United Nations.

Buhari sent the list at a time when the senate is unhappy with the executive.

The upper legislative chamber halted the screening of resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as requested by Buhari.

The senate shifted the exercise by two weeks, citing what it termed disregard for its proceedings as reason.

The lawmakers berated the president for appearing to be doing nothing about their rejection of Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC.
