CAN Condemns Plateau Killings

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State chapter has condemned the latest attack in Barakin-Ladi local government area of the state saying continued genocide going on in some villages are very disheartening, to say the least.

The state chapter of  CAN in a statement signed by its chairman, Rev Soja Bewarang said the killings was no longer herders and farmers again but deliberate attempt to conquer and occupy the land of the people’s ancestral heritage.

Said he :”CAN also note with great pains the dastardly attacks ongoing in many other local government areas in the State by the herdsmen militias.

CAN condemn in the strongest terms the level of the continuous genocide of Plateau people.

Barkin Ladi is under siege with more than 200 innocent precious human lives killed and countless driven out in the rains and left without shelter”

CAN said the unholy act was a systematic genocide and perceived it as a deliberate attempt to destroy the cultural heritage of Plateau people, in particular, the most affected areas and called on the Government to use its might to bring these killings to a stop.

It also called on the International community to come to the aid of Plateau people as the security seems to be incapable of contending with the challenges adding that the soil of Plateau is smelling with rotten dead bodies as a result of silent killings and besides many people are missing.

Also, the chairman Christian Association in 19 Northern states and the federal capital territory Rev Yakubu Pam has condemned the wanton killings of innocent villagers in restive communities of Barakin-Ladi, Bassa and in Riyom local governments in Plateau state in the past few days by people suspected to be gunmen.

Rev Pam in a Press statement made available to newsmen in Jos on Sunday said while the people of the state have started to forget the sad memories of the past, it was unfortunate that the ugly incident has started rearing its ugly head again.

Pam who commended the Plateau state government for the relative peace it has restored to the state in the last 3 years, challenged the government and security agencies in the state to bring the ongoing madness in the affected communities to an end as quickly as possible.
