I Don’t Need to Say Anything to Phil Jones After Stoke Blunder – Mourinho

Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho knows Phil Jones is well aware of his mistake during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke yesterday.

The Red Devils defender ended up on his backside as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting headed his, and Stoke’s, second of the game at the Bet365 Stadium.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand criticised Jones, but Mourinho refused to tear into the England man.

Marcus Rashford deflected in Paul Pogba’s header into the net after Choupo-Moting put the hosts in front.

Romelu Lukaku scored his fourth goal of the season but the Potters roared back, thanks to Jones’ error.

And the United boss insists Jones doesn’t need anyone to talk to him about his part in the equaliser.

Mourinho said: “It is not the moment to speak, he knows the mistake, he doesn’t need me to go in and speak with him about it, so no problem.

“[Jones missing Tuesday] These things are a part of the game, he’s playing well for us, he’s probably tired after two matches with the international team but he cannot play Tuesday so is good that he gets his rest and it is an opportunity for Lindelof and [Chris] Smalling.

“I think probably it is a fair result, one team wanted to win, another team wanted to draw and they defended a lot and it is becoming quite trendy in the Premier League, this way of defending.

“They did well and physically very strong and they probably deserved the point.

“This was a game for [Marouane] Fellaini and then on the set pieces we would be more dominant than we were, we didn’t have much time after the 2-1 to kill the game.”
