Italian Politician Matteo Salvini Wants Nigerian Migrant Castrated Over Attempted Rape

A Nigerian migrant in Italy has been arrested for attempted rape of a 62-year-old woman and now faces deportation.

ANSA reports that 25-year-old Jude Eboh carried out the alleged attack at a hotel in Giugliano, in the Campania region of Italy, which is being used to as a makeshift asylum centre. The elderly victim was a member of staff at the centre, and the attack took place in her office after Eboh entered and blocked the door.

According to Naples police, Eboh will now be deported “as soon as the necessary legal procedures have been completed”. He is currently in custody at Poggioreale.

Matteo Salvini, who leads Italy’s populist Northern League, has called for more thorough punishment on his Facebook page:

“He’s been arrested, but that’s not enough. He should be chemically castrated and expelled from Italy,” he wrote.

With illegal immigration to Italy at record-breaking levels in 2016 and asylum applications already up by 41 per cent in January 2017, Salvini has called for Italy to follow the U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s lead and introduce a temporary moratorium on so-called refugees.

Salvini’s party, originally formed to campaign for Padanian independence, hopes to make a strong showing in Italy’s upcoming elections, allowing it to become kingmaker in the formation of a new coalition government.

The Northern League is willing to work “with any party as long as that party is willing to endorse key points we have put in our government agenda”, according to Salvini. These include “expulsion of all illegal immigrants, euro exit, more strict safety controls and a 15 per cent flat tax to tackle fiscal avoidance as Donald Trump has proposed and as Russia and Bulgaria already have”.

It is not only criminals who have been exploiting the Libyan migrant route to Italy. Intelligence agencies have known since 2015 that Islamic State sees the Mediterranean as a “gateway” to Europe, and top police chief Franco Gabrielli caused alarm earlier this month when he frankly admitted that “ISIS will strike Italy soon”.

“I say it openly: we will have to pay a price as well,” he predicted. “[I]nvestigations … have shown that most people arrested in our country with links to ISIS were very close to actually carrying out attacks and killing others.”
