Rafa Benitez Agrees Deal to Take Over at Newcastle United

Rafa Benitez has agreed a three-year deal to take over at Newcastle United, Spanish newspaper AS reports.

With Steve McClaren having led the team into a relegation survival battle and currently sit second from bottom, Newcastle looked for the man to who has won two La Liga titles, two Europa League titles and a UEFA Champions League.

The paper attributes the news to a source close to the manager who three months ago was sacked by Real Madrid. But the former Liverpool was is set for a return to the Premier League on a three-year contract but there could be an exit clause should the club be relegated.

Steve McClaren whose weekly press conference was cancelled yesterday (Wednesday) was said to have spoken to Newcastle’s managing director Lee Charnley over the phone yesterday and is suspected to be sacked later today.
