Real Madrid have set their sights on Antoine Griezmann as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to journalist Eduardo Inda.
Real Madrid are short on strikers following Alvaro Morata’s £60million move to Chelsea this summer.
Zinedine Zidane has admitted this month he wants a replacement for the Spain international, especially with Karim Benzema sidelined.
And according to journalist Eduardo Inda, the La Liga champions have set their sights on Antoine Griezmann.
The Atletico Madrid striker is said to have an £88million release clause which Real are willing to meet.
“Griezmann had a €100m clause, raised to €200m this summer and has now dropped back to €100m,” Inda told Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones.
“Madrid believes that he would be an excellent alternative to Cristiano Ronaldo, who is not eternal.
“Griezmann is 22, 23 years old [sic] and Cristiano is 32 and Benzema is going to turn 30 in December.”
The move would be audacious by Real considering their great rivalry with Atletico but Zidane has stressed the importance of getting a new forward.
Speaking last week about Real’s lack of attacking options, Zidane said: “It’s true, when you look at the players we had like Morata…
“And when you see that now we only have [Borja] Mayoral that you might think we lack a No 9.
“I would have liked Morata to stay, but he wanted to play more and to leave.
“It wasn’t possible to sign another player.”
