Saudi Arabia will allow shops and businesses to stay open 24 hours from January 1.
Shops and establishments availing the license will have to follow certain conditions such as the installation of cameras and surveillance systems, according to a statement from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.
This is the latest in a string of reforms introduced by the Kingdom to boost the ease of doing business in the country.
“Allowing commercial activities to function 24/7 will contribute to providing commodities and services to residents around the clock and will enhance the quality of life in cities,” Majed Al Qasabi, the acting Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs was quoted as saying in several media reports.
