Former President Goodluck Jonathan has met with two former military rulers, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, the Niger State capital, on Tuesday.
Jonathan was accompanied on the trip by his former Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadomhe.
He met with the retired former Heads of State behind closed doors.
A source familiar with the development told SIGNAL that the purpose of the visit may not be unconnected with the growing discontent in the polity over the performance of President Buhari’s administration.
According to the source who did not want to be named, “The situation in the country calls for a lot of critical thinking and strategic consultations. Gone are the days when it was the case of only the poor crying, the elite class are also feeling the heat and there have been direct and indirect calls on former President Jonathan to return to power in 2019 to salvage Nigeria from the current mess. I won’t say more than that”, the source disclosed.
Further attempts to get more details of the meeting are yet to yield results at the time of this report.
Another source however told SIGNAL on Tuesday that the meeting was just an ordinary visit in the spirit of the Eid-el-Kabir.
It still remains unclear why the former President made a physical visit when he could have called to felicitate with the generals.
More details to come.
