Dismissed Policemen Appear in Court for Looting ex-President Jonathan’s House

African leaders proposed on Tuesday creating a special fund to combat Islamist militant groups growing in strength from Kenya to Nigeria. African Union (AU) states announced the idea after Nairobi talks on a problem highlighted on Tuesday by capture of a town in north-eastern Nigeria by Boko Haram militants. The policemen who were dismissed from the Force for burgling the Abuja house of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan have been arraigned by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Abuja.

The house in question was situated at No. 89 Fourth Avenue, Gwarimpa District.

They were arraigned at a magistrate court in Wuse, Abuja.

While taking their pleas, the magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello, granted one of the suspects, a N7m bail, noting that the law is clear about a citizen’s right to liberty.

“Bail is granted to allow the accused attend trial. Where it is perceived that the accused may jump bail, he may be denied,” Segun-Bello said.
