The Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN, Ebonyi State Chapter has dissolved the State Working Committee led by Mr. Nweli Ifeanyichukwu Hilary and appointed a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the party for 6 months. According to a statement issued by the party last weekend after its Special Congress, the party reviewed the overall performance of the working committee in the past one year and was highly dissatisfied with the disunity among the members. The Congress also noted the indictment of the former Chairman, Mr. Nweli for abuse of office by a fact-finding Committee that reviewed the State chapter’s participation at 2018 National Convention for presidential primaries.
The 11-man Caretaker Committee has Dr. Nkem Okata as the Chairman, Barr. Hope Saviour as the Secretary and Barr. Ugwumba Francis Enyinna as the Legal Adviser. The Congress charged them to strengthen the party structures at the Ward and LGA levels and conduct an elective Congress within 6 months to appoint a new State Working Committee. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Okata thanked the party for the confidence in him and gave an assurance that he shall work effectively with his team to grow the party.
Also in his remarks the National Vice Chairman (South East) of the party, Dr. Lazarus Eze commended the Congress and described the development as “a difficult but inevitably necessary decision that will restore the party to a path of progress and reposition it for electoral victories”. He advised the Caretaker Committee to learn from the mistakes of the sacked exco and work with unity of purpose and integrity.
